If you are in Cairo **right now** (29th March - 1st April inc), there's a free exhibition of photographs from the revolution - only open until (and including) Friday 1st April at the small gallery at the Opera House - just round the corner from the ticket office. Nearest metro "Opera" - walkable from Tahrir. Opening times 10am - 2pm and 430pm - 830pm.
Yesterday (March 28th), I was out and about with 2 female visitors from different European countries. We travelled on buses, microbuses, the metro. We visited Tahrir, City Stars and the Opera House grounds. We experienced almost no 'tourist' hassle (just a bit of 'see our tours' 'where you from' type stuff), and no harassment, unpleasantness of any kind. People were welcoming, helpful and polite.
Things to note:
Ramses railway station (main station in central Cairo) is undergoing a lot of building work. It is open, but is a little chaotic. If you are meeting people there or travelling from there, allow extra time to find your way into the station - you will have to navigate around the construction sites. Also note that we could not find any toilets or any sit-down cafes (though plenty of refreshments for sale on the platform where trains to Luxor leave from) on the station, so do bear this in mind.
The Railway Museum is currently closed, we were told for around 2 months from now.
The Egyptian Museum appears to be open but we were just walking past, not attempting to go in.
The central Tahrir area where the peace camp was has been cleared (which happened on March 9th) and various potted plants have been placed around there.
The Museum of Modern Art and Palace of Arts are both closed. We were told Palace of Arts should be reopening on Sunday 3rd April. Don't know about the Museum.
Not sure whether there is a program operating at the Opera House at the moment, didn't see any posters up and the ticket office was closed by the time we arrived. There is a schedule online http://www.cairoopera.org/ecalendar/index.aspx
As at 4th April 2011, the following were also still shut:
Abdeen Palace
Islamic Museum of Art

Hi! Opera should be operating because there was a message in the media somewhere that all performances will start at 8PM instead of 7 PM, from 1st of April, I believe, after the night curfew was shortened.
Regards,
Thanks innovatisioon :)
